This was my first-ever musical collaboration recording, made using the website OpenMusicFactory.com, which is apparently now defunct. Making a collaborative recording via the web was a fascinating and rewarding experience. When I set out making this recording, my song had only been performed solo acoustic and I had no idea or vision of how I wanted it to sound in full band mode. It seemed to take a long time to make a recording this way, but I'm pleased with the results. Especially since I have never met any of my band members!
Emerson Riddle

 ©2006 by David Langford Smith
Emerson Riddle lived in a trailer in the woods
Went hunting and fishing every chance he could
Never married--swore he never would
Emerson Riddle knew when he had it good

Emerson Riddle never set foot in a church
He worshiped wood ducks, deer, and trees of maple and birch
He once said he was a more-than-ist, like the people who were here first
Emerson Riddle didn't give a damn about chapter and verse

Some said Too bad
So sad
I heard he was stark raving mad
Poor Emerson

Emerson Riddle moved back into his mom's home
She had multiple myaloma, but he was the only one to know
Stayed by her side until she was gone
Emerson Riddle went into the hills to be alone

They said Too bad
So sad
I heard she drove him mad
Poor Emerson

Emerson Riddle fell in the woods on New Year's Day
A pack of wolves dragged him to their cave
I swear he once joked he wouldn't want to go any other way
Emerson Riddle wasn't the kind to overstay
